Responsible for development & implementation of a communications strategy that builds popular support and political will to end mass incarceration and the overuse of the criminal legal system. Work closely with project staff to shape and deliver messaging, media relations, and public communications. Produce a wide range of media content, including articles, press releases, opinion pieces, newsletters, social media posts, and toolkits that support our campaigns and advocacy work. Manage and grow CCJRC's social media presence, ensuring consistent, impactful messaging across all platforms. Foster relationships with media professionals (journalists, editors, and broadcasters) to ensure coverage of our work. Respond to media inquiries and coordinate interviews and public statements with staff and community members.

Founded at the behest of the Harm Reduction Action Center and other Colorado public health organizations and advocates, CODPC works to advance the health, rights, and dignity of people who use drugs by advocating for anti-carceral, data-driven policy approaches to address the overdose crisis and reduce potential harms of substance use. Researched and developed all content for the website. Recruited an advisory board including scientists, physicians, harm reductionists, and people with lived experience. Work closely with a broad and vital coalition of public health organizations and subject matter experts (Right Response Colorado) that meets weekly, including the ACLU of Colorado, Mental Health Colorado, and Healthier Colorado. Prepare and deliver testimony and policy briefs before councils, boards, commissions, and the legislature. Develop digital tools, manage social media and community action campaigns, and research and write fact sheets for legislators and stakeholders. Write magazine articles and generate significant earned media.

Advocate for ending mass incarceration, preventing police violence, and championing pretrial reform with a goal of ending cash bail in Colorado. Facilitate an ongoing ‘community of practice’ comprised of local community advocates. Monitor state and local policy activities related to the organization’s priority areas, identifying pressure points and activating community engagement. Build relationships and coalitions with state, local, and community stakeholders, as well as grassroots and grasstops organizations with shared policy goals. Organize legislative and city council testimony by subject matter experts and constituents. Educate policymakers and organize and train volunteers to do in-person legislative lobbying.
