Jennifer Hammitt is the Director of Legal Affairs at Platte River Power Authority. She came to public power from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of General Counsel in Washington D.C. and private environmental law practice in the Pacific Northwest. Jennifer’s work at Platte River includes negotiating complex contracts and power purchase agreements, supervising litigation, supporting environmental compliance and facilitating Platte River’s resource diversification policy, including work on distributed energy resources, renewable agreements, and market development in the Mountain West.Jennifer served in the Peace Corps from 2006 – 2008, building gravity-based drinking water systems and improved woodstoves in the western highlands of Guatemala. During her federal service, Jennifer received multiple EPA and Department of Justice awards for excellence in litigation, investigation, and crisis response. This includes a nomination for the Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medal in 2015 for her unique innovation and leadership role developing the Agency’s groundbreaking eDiscovery program using advanced computer intelligence tools. Jennifer holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of New Mexico and a Juris Doctor, summa cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law.
