The most ironic thing about my career? I was adamant I would never go into sales. Senior year of college, when testing for career aptitude my results were off the charts in two categories: sales and agriculture. Farming opportunities for recent college grads who lived at the beach in San Diego were few and far between, and there were bills to pay, so I reluctantly found an entry level sales job, figuring I would last a year or two before finding my “real career."Seventeen years later, I can happily say I love what I do. What I didn’t initially realize, is the skills that make me most successful in sales are innate: I am very curious, I like to learn and am fascinated by a wide range of new ideas and concepts. I love talking to people, but enjoy listening more. I get a deep satisfaction from solving problems and helping others succeed. Most of all I enjoy developing long term relationships and feel fortunate I’ve been able to cultivate these with my customers, as well as my colleagues.
