Jennifer specializes in litigating cases arising out of complex professional liability insurance coverage disputes. She has litigated in state and federal courts at both the trial and appellate level, with underlying disputes ranging from securities class actions to employment discrimination lawsuits to insurance broker negligence. Although her practice is largely focused on California, where she has practiced for more than 20 years, she also has handled cases in jurisdictions across the country. In addition to litigating insurance coverage disputes (including bad faith, declaratory relief, and rescission actions), she also advises her clients with resolving, managing, and analyzing coverage for complex professional liability claims under policies issued to publicly-traded and private corporations and their directors and officers, not-for-profit organizations, law firms, and other professionals.Jennifer has been grateful for opportunities to collaborate on pro bono matters with numerous public interest organizations, including Kids in Need of Defense (KIND), Human Options (a shelter for victims of domestic abuse), the Orange County Public Law Center, and the ACLU. These pro bono matters include First Amendment cases involving free speech and free exercise of religion, preparing attorneys’ fee petitions for prevailing parties in civil rights litigation, assisting unaccompanied minors in navigating their way through the U.S. immigration system, obtaining protective orders for victims of domestic violence, and assisting families with adoptions.Jennifer started her career right out of law school in 1996 with the litigation and insurance boutique Ross Dixon in Washington, D.C., which merged with Troutman Sanders LLP in 2009. Jennifer has practiced out of the firm's Orange County, California office most of her career, but moved to San Francisco in 2015 to help open Troutman's San Francisco office.
