Account ExecutiveMarsh & Mclennan Companies Jul 1993 - Sep 2003Charlotte, North Carolina AreaAs an Account Executive with a commercial insurance brokerage firm, my role was to work with the CFO, VP Finance or Risk Manager at mid sized to large companies throughout North Carolina to ensure that they had proper coverage for loss of property or in the event of liability. Along with my team, I would tour their facilities, interview their staff, and analyze their insurance programs looking for gaps in coverage, strategies to reduce risk or opportunities to reduce their costs. Once the program audit was complete, I would make a presentation to the executive management and present our findings. When they saw our in-depth presentation, they typically hired us to implement the recommendations. At that point my team worked with them to protect them and keep their costs down and our clients stayed with us for years.I started out in 1993 working for Johnson & Higgins as an Account Executive until we merged with Marsh & McLennan in 1997. My job title and duties remained the same after the merger, just the company name changed. -
Account ExecutiveArkwright Mutual Insurance Co Aug 1990 - Jul 1993Dallas, TexasAs Account Executive with this commercial property insurance company, my job was to meet with Fortune 500 manufacturers in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Mexico to evaluate their property insurance programs and recommend ways to improve their coverage, prevent losses and reduce their costs. Insurance is most companies' second largest expense behind payroll. I would travel with the Risk Manager to tour their locations around the country. I also hosted many companies at our headquarters in Waltham, MA to test how their product burned in our loss prevention center at Factory Mutual. They would ship several pallets of product to this location and we would burn it to ensure that they had the proper sprinkler systems and other measures to contain a fire. I climbed inside massive boilers to inspect them alongside of our Loss Prevention Engineers. With my tema of experts, I evaluated all types of risk in an effort to reduce costs for these companies.When I was first hired, I had no experience with commercial insurance, so nine other recent grads and I attended Arkwright University, a year long training program that included classroom courses, on the job training, shadowing experts in every aspect of our business and earning our CPCU designations. It was a grueling, competitive program, but at the end of the year, we were properly prepared for our roles.
