• My year-long doctoral practicum is with The Health and Behavioral Wellness Council of Greater Colorado Valley, which is located in Columbus, TX. • My preceptor is Dr. Mazie Leftwich, PsyD, LCSW Emeritus.• I coordinated a group of students and managed a Behavioral Health Needs Assessment in Colorado and Fayette Counties. • The needs assessment involved secondary data compilation, coordination of community discussion groups (CDGs), thematic analysis, and a final executive report which was distributed to local leaders and community members. • Continued work in this county involves reaching out to Hispanic/Latino community residents via local churches to incorporate them in council decision-making & developing and translating awareness flyers from English to Spanish regarding various behavioral health conditions. I have also aided in grant writing for the Wellness Council utilizing data from the Behavioral Health Needs Assessment.

• My Summer practicum was with the Brazos Valley Food Bank (BVFB), which is located in Bryan, TX. • My preceptor was Samantha Wyrick, who is the Nutrition Education Coordinator at BVFB.• During my practicum, I was able use what I have learned in my classes to address food insecurity in Brazos Valley. • Some of the tasks I completed were the following: secondary data collection, literature review, needs assessment written report, logic model, program work plan, translation of nutrition curriculum (from English to Spanish) and development of a presentation for medical professionals about the social determinants of food insecurity. I also participated in providing real-time interpretation of WIC nutrition lessons and cooking classes (English to Spanish).
