Profile bio

About Jennifer Cham

Jennifer Cham is a Content Strategist and UX Writer at CERN. She possess expertise in bioinformatics, user interface design, usability testing, information architecture, genomics and 21 more skills. Colleagues describe her as "I have worked with Jennifer on multiple occasions - whilst she was UX Lead at EMBL-EBI, and more recently when she was Senior Research Informatics Programme Manager at Alzheimer’s Research UK. At ARUK Jennifer led two EDoN initiative teams, one responsible for coordinating technology projects and the other for strategic collaborations. Key activities that we undertook together were translating the strategy of the initiative into operational plans and designing approaches to bring best practices to the collaboration. Specific examples of how Jennifer added value from day one included redesigning the way we ran virtual meetings with our many partners, reshaping our communications including overhauling our internal newsletter and EDoN welcome materials, and setting up team building and knowledge sharing practices internally. She derived new success metrics (key progress indicators) for EDoN project and led the planning for a new commercialisation group to devise how the initiative could take the product to market. Working with Jennifer doesn’t feel like work. She is a fan of storytelling and gamification, honed through her previous role as UX evangelist at EBI. She brings joy to getting things done on time and within the resources/ constraints present at the time. She has great ideas and the ability to make them successes through her own expertise and by motivating others to join her." and "Jenny is a warm, positive, and resourceful member of any team. She and I both worked for several years at the EBI where, in our different roles, we were able to forge a path for UX design at the EBI - Jenny was instrumental in that, thanks in no small part to her good-natured approach to just getting on with things! She worked on and made a big difference in high-profile projects. That mattered because it was seen, and people gradually became interested in doing more of that in their own projects - something that Jenny could then help them to achieve. We worked most closely on the Enzyme Portal and Open Targets projects – for the latter, interviewing tens of drug development scientists, and mapping out the complex landscape of target validation. I think Jenny especially shines as a facilitator - I defy a room full of people not to warm to her! I’ve seen her productively herd cats many times, drawing on a host of workshop techniques, as well as her own interpersonal skills. In the last couple of years, she has cultivated her ability as a visual note-taker, too, making graphic recordings of events and meetings, in large and small formats, with flair. I think this has allowed her to neatly combine her creative drive with her ability to really listen and understand. "

Listed skills include Bioinformatics, User Interface Design, Usability Testing, Information Architecture, and 22 others.
