I'm an innovative mechanical and biomedical engineer with 28 years experience developing successful medical devices. I'm passionate about creative solutions to difficult problems, and enjoy mentoring like-minded people to create high value products and solutions.A prolific inventor, with 39 issued US patents and over 60 pending US applications, I was named to a list of Minnesota's Top Inventors by Twin Cities Business magazine (Jan 2013). I've written many invention disclosures and patent applications so I have a good idea of what kinds of novelty it takes to get a patent. I've helped determine strategies and arguments for amending and prosecuting patents when the USPTO is making things challenging.I've had the pleasure of working in large and small companies, so I've seen how to access and coordinate resources in a corporation, and also how to wear lots of hats when there is nobody else to do it.In a small company, I invented and developed the successful AngioJet waterjet thrombectomy system for Possis Medical, resulting in hundreds of millions of dollars of revenue and culminating in acquisition by Bayer / Medrad for $361 million. I also led vascular graft product development culminating in 510(k), PMA, HDE, and CE approvals. So I'm familiar with the regulatory aspects of device development. In a large company, I led successful team IP brainstorming efforts resulting in approximately several hundred invention disclosures from a small R&D group within one division at Boston Scientific in about 3 years. These produced 120 US patent applications.I'm skilled at researching disease, device, and business opportunities, using my device experience and clinical knowledge to effectively evaluate opportunities and concepts. I have experience in preclinical and clinical device testing of interventional and surgical devices. But my biggest strengths are in looking at problems differently so we can come up with new and better solutions and products.
