My goal was to build a strong foundation for success in the position and beyond.• Wrote a monthly What’s New newsletter for subscribers, highlighting the latest additions to the Military Periscope databases.• Launched and edited the Periscope Depth weekly analytical report on defense and international relations topics for Military Periscope subscribers. The 500-word reports provided background and analysis on recent events in international affairs, conflicts and weapon programs.• Launched and edited the In Our Sights weekly joint online newsletter between Military Periscope and Forecast International with 2,000+ subscribers. • Significantly upgraded database content by enhancing and expanding the information provided, revamping and unifying its style and improving the quality of illustrative photos. This included detailed research using online and hardcopy publications. I added data on a daily basis to help keep the database more current.• Researched ground, air and naval weapon systems using open-source materials to update old and write new records for Military Periscope’s weapons database. I focused on enhancing the description of each system, including subsystems, while making sure all information was accessible to a general audience. I covered contract awards, modernizations, testing events and acquisition milestones as well as variants, program or system issues and operational uses. I included unit cost and program cost as available.• Wrote a monthly special report of 1,500-2,000 words on military, naval, defense industry and international affairs topics for the Military Periscope website. These included information pieces about weapon systems and programs, analyses of programs and government strategy documents, and deep dives into conflicts around the world.• Managed stringers researching and writing weapon records. Assigned records to be updated, edited work and ensured monthly deadlines were met. Performed additional research as necessary to ensure all content was as correct and complete as possible.• Trained customers in the use of the database both virtually and in person. I used such opportunities to obtain customer feedback and ensure user needs were being met.• Selected and summarized 12 news stories daily for Military Periscope’s Daily Defense News Capsules product. The process of finding and writing up stories kept me abreast of the latest developments in defense industry, policy and foreign affairs. It also allowed me to collect information for immediate addition to the database as well as to support later updates or new records.

The 5-page papers provided a brief strategic overview of each country (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland) and reviewed their views on Russia and accession to NATO and the European Union. The final paper provided an overview of the republic of Georgia’s strategic situation and state of relations with the US, with a focus on military assistance.
