About Jernej Pirnar

I have a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from University of Ljubljana and over 10 years of experience working in the field of fluid dynamics. I have wide experience in experimental and numerical modelling of biomechanical fluid-structure interaction problems, numerical modelling of mixing applications (sparged stirred vessels), and electronic components cooling. When working in the Flight Physics and Simulations department of Pipistrel Vertical Solutions, I was responsible for designing thermal management systems of conventional and electric aircraft powertrains. Particularly, I am proud and grateful to have had an opportunity to be a part of MAHEPA project and Nuuva V300 eVTOL development teams. Currently, I work as Researcher at the Pipistrel Vertical Solutions.When I’m not on the job, I love hiking, running, mountain biking, and indulging my love for seeing new places.Competencies: fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), turbulent flows, mixing, computer-aided design (CAD), teaching, academic writing and publishing, presentations

My research interests were especially in the analysis (experimental, numerical) of complex single- and two-phase flows and coupled systems. I obtained wide experience in numerical modelling of fluid-structure interaction problems, e.g., analysis of airflow in the human upper airway, flow through a compliant channel. I was involved in CFD studies of mixing applications (sparged tall vessel stirred with different impellers) and heat transfer (cooling of electronic components). I was also a teaching assistant to the graduate courses Computational Fluid Dynamics and Thermodynamics.
