I'm J.Genevieve ... artist first, intuitive photographer second, raw & emerging human-woman-and-then-some always.My soul gaze has always been drawn to the heart and true nature of things, in particular the disruptive beauty of the real of it. I'm unapologetically enamored with life unfolding in the moment, layers of creative process, the textured mystique of the mundane, unfiltered emotion, dissenting bodies, wild forms & honest souls in their element.As a seer, I observe versus direct, instinctively merging social documentary and abstract aesthetics. This approach, which is highly intuitive and process oriented, shapes both my photographic work and ongoing exploration of other mediums. I create best within a space of being, in between moments, behind the scenes and below the surface.Inevitably, what isn't visible will surface when I'm around, which can be an affirming experience for some and a disconcerted unraveling for others. My work seeks to mend our spirits with our humanity and is driven by the belief that liberation from performative appearances is needed, now more than ever, within the visual conversation and beyond.

When I began, the gallery and working studio was growing rapidly but had little internal infrastructure or cohesive branding to support that growth. I stepped into the role because I happened good with both a camera and producing quality visual content. By the time I moved on from the business, my efforts had helped to consistently increase sales, sometimes by as much as 20%. I juggled 80% of the responsibilities of the business from implementing processes and POS systems to creating a vast bank of consistently branded marketing and PR material to designing and managing a custom website to meet the gallery’s unique needs. I had no schooling or professional training in those areas, I simply rolled up my sleeves and leaned into my Mid-West work ethic, learned the necessary skills in real time and then applied the that knowledge accordingly.

At 21, I became a military wife and quickly learned the role of officer's wife/FRG leader/liason. I also completed my Bachelor of Arts with an emphasis in Art History and Humanities. I returned from Germany with a degree, a fire to begin my own creative business and a positive pregnancy test. I launched into motherhood and business ownership at the same time. Capture Photography was my first attempt at a creative brand. I built it while staying at home with two children under two and working during nap time. The kids would play on the floor while I read and played with them and used them as my tiny muses to learn camera settings. Capture Photography did not last because the foundation was not in alignment with my authentic self. However, the lessons learned were invaluable and necessary when launching J.Genevieve - the brand that was meant to be and currently in motion.
