About Jesse Grainger

I am an ESRC-funded PhD candidate with the Politics, Public Policy and Governance cohort at King's College London. My UG and PGT studies were based broadly across the disciplines of political science, sociology and human rights law - with a specified interest in how these disciplines intersect from a queer perspective. My research project at King's College London focuses on the ideological configuration of positive positions on homosexuality and nativism and an exploration into why European populist radical right parties have begun to fuse positive positions on homosexuality with their traditional nativist narrative. The project takes a mixed-method approach by combining cross-national public opinion surveys with party manifestos to examine the phenomenon from both demand-side and supply-side perspectives. Whilst largely focused on queer politics and the interplay of public opinion and elite cues, my interests are broad in nature. I also have specific interests in masculinity studies and how men's gender identity intersects with their sexuality, how queer men shape their own conceptions of masculinity, and how this fits into the broader gendered hierarchy of society.
