Quanta Services has a unique perspective on support. We still manage to keep a tight-knit community of employees centered around support and service with eighty-five operating units and more than four hundred offices worldwide. Each of these operating units maintains its own IT support staff and, in many ways, operates autonomously while depending on us in the Corporate offices for guidance and standards in emerging technologies. We support connectivity for all of these offices on a mix of Cisco Viptela SDWAN, legacy ASAs with IPSEC Tunnels, and MPLS Circuits. My primary focus has shifted from Cisco Unified Communications to the support of the Infrastructure Networking team, facilitating communication, collaboration, and documentation of standards and training. Our workflows center around team meetings where we identify gaps and action plans. We create detailed processes and proposals to define deliverables and accurately set expectations with other teams and leadership to deliver attainable results that other team members can quickly and effortlessly adapt.
  • The Broadleaf Group
    Sr. Uc Engineer
The Broadleaf Group Feb 2015 - Aug 2017
As a Senior UC Engineer, I worked with clients and strategic business interests to design, scope, and implement solutions for medium to large businesses, nationally and internationally. Writing these scopes meant learning business functions across multiple roles to create cost-effective engineering solutions to meet and exceed expectations. To successfully exceed expectations for various clients while engaged in multiple projects simultaneously, you must juggle many tasks while communicating effectively and taking notes to create documentation and deployment standards for future reference. This role requires thoroughly enjoying working to solve complex problems while keeping current on emerging technologies. Many companies look to use us as Subject Matter Experts to migrate their current deployments to fit industry standards. These engagements do not stop at Unified Communications. Provide advice on Active Directory clean up, work inside the constraints of vCenter, or research and integrate third-party applications. Our projects typically include cluster migrations from software as old as version seven to the most current versions while converting legacy dial plans to E164 globalization standards. Often there is a delicate balance of lab and production changes to mirror environments and finagle servers into compliance to perform migrations. Working in Unified Communications means wearing many hats. A strong network background means I can also provide consulting on routing and switching designs, QoS deployments, and data center implementations.
  • Furmanite Worldwide
    Global Telecom & Networking Engineer
    Furmanite Worldwide Feb 2013 - Feb 2015
    Houston Texas
As a Global Telecom & Networking Engineer for Furmanite, I was the technical lead in standardizing network configurations and hardware deployment models. These recommendations were based on growth and scaling for personnel while accounting for life cycle management processes and budgetary constraints for over eighty offices globally. All while improving uptime and availability. In this role, we adopted a new IP scheme to support growth and expansion for future networks globally, allowing for regional supernets, summarization, and segmentation dedicated to individual functions on a Sprint BGP MPLS and DMVPN with redundant Internet POPs. While deploying these new standards, it was necessary to support the aging legacy network and travel to ease user transition when entire network and phone deployments were required. We trained individuals in the use and operation of Cisco IP Phones while ensuring any additional business requirements were documented and resolved on the spot. We often conducted and leveraged contractors for similar deployments where necessary. After acquiring an engineering firm with a narrow window, we collapsed all of their existing services into our data center while maintaining our current project load and improving availability. These activities included support for migrating five additional offices and six hundred users. After this migration, I deployed Call Manager clusters, core ASAs, DMVPN hubs, MPLS gateways, and Wireless LAN Controllers in our international core offices. All in support of our EMEA and APAC offices while supporting the legacy IP infrastructure and IT services parallel.
  • The Broadleaf Group (Baker Hughes)
    Senior Ip Telephony Engineer
The Broadleaf Group (Baker Hughes) Feb 2010 - Feb 2013
    Houston, Texas Area
Areas of responsibility included network infrastructure analysis, design, and implementation, focusing on meeting business requirements with reliable and secure voice solutions. Projects included cluster consolidation, national SIP deployments, global cluster standardization/management, design, implementation, and deployment for enterprise voice network infrastructure, including Session Management Edition. Assisted in support of Enterprise Contact Center solution deployed globally. I was honored with kudos from our CIO in a Town Hall meeting for completing a last-minute telephony deployment in our Canadian headquarters in Alberta.
  • Comsys (Calpine Corp)
    Network Engineer
Comsys (Calpine Corp) Jun 2009 - Feb 2010
    Houston, Texas Area
Took point on a network redesign for thirty-six power plant networks for Calpine Corp, which included mapping and redesigning the infrastructure while keeping key elements operational such as legacy input/output controllers, Ethernet over Microwave, and plant control workstations. We installed redundant Cisco 2821s and 3560s at each plant with Wireless 3G backups, which increased site availability to nearly 100 percent. Supervised local contractors for cable and fiber deployments, interfaced with local site engineers and management staff, cleared racks of end-of-life devices, and set up new wire management, completing the project four weeks in advance. We were tasked with an enterprise PRI conversion to SIP with Verizon saving over one million dollars in subscriber cost annually. This project required coordination with many project managers, deploying redundant Cisco Unified Border Elements, performing circuit inventories for each site, determining which valid circuits to port, notifying end-users of short outages, and updating configurations on Cisco Communications Manager and Unity Connection.
