I have advised employers and litigated the full range of employment disputes, including discrimination, retaliation, and harassment claims, workplace accommodations, class actions, wage and hour disputes, administrative hearings, grievance arbitrations for unionized employees, and non-competition and non-solicitation matters. I have also litigated a variety of commercial matters, including public record act cases, copyright and trademark infringement, breach of contract/warranty, breach of fiduciary duty, First Amendment, and defamation matters. My clients include cities, counties, government agencies, legislative bodies and other public sector entities, a global online retailer, newspaper and media organizations, homeowners’ associations and foreign corporations.

As an attorney at Betts, Patterson & Mines, Jesse gained experience representing individuals and businesses from case inception through satisfactory resolution. Jesse routinely helped clients respond to claims, navigate through settlement discussions, mediation, arbitration, and, if necessary, take cases to trial. During his time at Betts, Patterson & Mines, Jesse obtained multiple summary judgment victories and a jury trial award totaling over a half-million dollars.

As a judicial law clerk at the Washington State Court of Appeals, Jesse was assigned four appellate cases per judicial term. For each case Jesse would provide the panel of judges with a memorandum that detailed the relevant issues and recommended an outcome. After hearing oral argument, Jesse worked closely with the panel of judges to develop the court's written opinion. Opinion drafting required careful attention to detail and consideration of potentially differing views from individual judges. Clerking at the court of appeals significantly developed Jesse's research and writing skills and played a significant part in his success as an attorney.

Earthjustice is a non-profit public interest law firm dedicated to protecting the magnificent places, natural resources, and wildlife of this earth and to defending the right of all people to a healthy environment. Earthjustice brings about far-reaching change by enforcing and strengthening environmental laws on behalf of hundreds of organizations and communities. As a law clerk at Earthjustice, Jesse conducted research on federal and state laws, including the Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, and the National Environmental Policy Act. Jesse was also able to participate in client meetings, research potential legal claims, and make recommendations to the organization on which claims to pursue.

Ann Arbor, Michigan

The Legal Services of South Central Michigan provides free legal assistance to low income individuals around the community. The office focuses on homelessness prevention, domestic violence prevention, and access to health care, food, and need-based income programs. As a legal intern, Jesse conducted client intakes, drafted briefs, and wrote memos in preparation for administrative hearings. Jesse assisted several clients from intake until case resolution, including appearing before an Administrative Law Judge.
