Commanded the battalion for 12 months of sustained combat operations in Afghanistan as Task Force Spader with over 900 soldiers, while partnering with Afghan National Army, Afghan National Police, and Afghan Border Police units. Redeployed the battalion back to Fort Knox in December 2011.
