I filmed football, basketball, and baseball games for Mississippi State University, which were shown on the video board and streamed live online for Hail State TV. I was taught how to shoot these games from all different camera angles. I learned how a live production operates and even how crucial it is to effectively communicate with public relations officials, marketing, and advertisers involved.

While interning here, I job shadowed news reporters and created news packages. This opportunity gave me first hand experience to how a professional news station operates. I learned how news reporters handle various story types and much more. I eventually got to the point where I was doing some stories of my own. I wrote scripts and edited video. I did a whole news package on my own and it aired during a couple broadcasts. Such a valuable experience that far exceeded my expectations!

This was a school news based show that my practicum class created. We did two shows a week. I created many of the packages that aired on this show. I also produced the show at least three times. I anchored the show three or four times as well. I Directed the show and was the Technical Director for the show once or twice. I also did other jobs such as controlling the audio, running a camera, floor manager, etc. I learned a whole lot from this experience.

This job was a scholarship position that I received through the MS State Athletic Department. The main part of this job was filming football practices daily throughout the season. I would shoot plays and drills so that by the time the practice was over, coaches and players could almost instantly leave the fields and begin studying their performance that day. Also, I would shoot video highlights at practices and at most of the games for our weekly motivational video for the players. This was a great experience that I learned very much from.

I created a Public Service Announcement on sportsmanship during my senior year of high school for the MHSAA that was shown at the high school championship football games on both the stadium’s jumbotron and on television. I also created and edited an informational video on sportsmanship, which was sponsored by C Spire Wireless and was distributed to many schools across Mississippi. This was all done to promote a new sportsmanship program called Star Sportsmanship. It was very successful and I had an article written about me in the newspaper and also was interviewed over the radio even! This was some exceptional early experience for me!
