I am currently a teaching assistant for a course called Interdisciplinary Directions in Psychology where the class sets up students to prepare for life beyond college. The curriculum is mostly set around diversity and professional and career development. I have been able to work with students one-on-one assisting them with assignments and resumes. Most of my professional development has come from collaborating with the five other teaching assistants and our professor continuing to work on the content to better the class. This has included reading several peer-reviewed articles and exploring different resources for students to use as part of the course. I think collaborating with the other teaching assistants and our professor and seeing the improvement and positive feedback from the students has been the most rewarding.

This opportunity gave me a chance to work with incoming Freshman in the Psychology department. I was able to support them academically, socially, and mentally as they transitioned into their first year of college. This was a great experience where I still keep contact with a few of the Freshman as references, friends, and an advisor as they continue their college experience.

I assisted high-functioning students ages 16-22 with running independent self-run businesses on the campus of Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children to better their skills to prepare them for employment after graduation. I collaborated with coworkers on strategies and plans to best convey the curriculum reaching all learning styles. Throughout the Summer, I also helped the students create resumes for applications to better their chances of being successful in society.

Alongside some old high school teachers of mine, I helped coach the Varsity softball team for the 2016 Spring season. I was given the opportunity to teach the players important skills both on and off the field ranging from properly fielding a ball to applying for colleges and making the most of their senior year. I was also given the opportunity to run some practices independently and used the technology available to me to analyze each player's swing and give feedback for improvement. This opportunity as a whole was a little out of my comfort zone at first, but by the end of the experience, it has been one of my most valued.
