My passion for healing technologies is deeply rooted in my father's vivid stories of military combat and nursing work in veterans' hospitals, coupled with his genuine love for science fiction. Guided by my mother's wisdom, I embarked on an academic journey that began with a tissue engineering high school summer program at Columbia University. This transformative experience guided my entry into the biomedical engineering program at Columbia University School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS), where I explored the intricate dynamics of biomechanics and tissue engineering. After graduating, my work at Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC) centered around stem cell-mediated tissue engineering research, focusing on developing a biological pacemaker for infarcted cardiac tissue. I then transitioned to an MRI clinical research lab at the Hatch Research Center of the Neurological Institute at CUMC. Here, I gained profound insights into clinical research logistics, especially concerning patients in crisis and those with cognitive impairment. Later, at the biochemistry department of Weill Cornell Medical College, I contributed significantly to launching a neurobiochemistry research lab. Managing lab operations, mentoring interns, and contributing to pioneering work led to my first-author article in Current Biology.Encouraged by my peers and mentors, I pursued further studies at the Chemical Engineering Department at City College of New York (CCNY). Specializing in polymer and lipid chemistry, my thesis focused on the development of synthetic lipid biomembranes supported on silica microparticles. Transitioning into a research technician role, I continued my contributions, leading faculty members to support my pursuit of a doctorate at CCNY. During this period, I developed an injectable, tissue adhesive, hydrogel implant for tissue repair, resulting in two patents. Simultaneously, I provided technical consultation to a biotech startup, contributing to their revolutionary sickle cell disease-related vasoocclusive pain crisis treatment, protected under NDA.In each role, I've aimed for a balance between leadership and collaboration, fostering a positive and productive work environment. My approach blends diligence with creativity, ensuring comprehensive and innovative problem-solving. I am deeply grateful for the opportunities I've had and am continually inspired by the limitless possibilities that lie ahead.
