About Jessica Harrell

Jessica Harrell is currently the Director of Science for UnboundEd. Most recently, she was the Senior Director of High School and 4-8 Science for BRICK Education Network and prior to that role she was the founding High School Director and later Director of Curriculum and Instruction at Great Oaks Charter High School (Now Great Oaks Legacy School) in Newark, NJ. Before her work in leadership, she taught in a variety of urban settings: teaching physics at Uncommon's North Star Academy HS in Newark; teaching math, physics and chemistry and leading the implementation of contextually framing mathematical content at Arrupe Jesuit HS in Denver, CO; teaching chemistry and ACT math at Gordon Tech HS and middle school math and science at St. Procopius (Chicago) as an Inner-City Teaching Corps member (now Alain Locke Initiative). An upstate New York native, Jessica holds a B.S. in Chemistry with a Math minor from Fairfield University, an M.S.Ed. from Northwestern University and an M.A. in Ed Leadership from Montclair State.-------I am passionate about closing the opportunity gap-recognizing that achievement is predictable by race or SES or Special Education needs not because some students can't achieve but because the system of education is designed to fail them. I am dedicated to breaking down social, economic and racial barriers to ensure that all students have the opportunity to attend and graduate from a college of their choice or meet their own chosen career goals and be valued for who they are and what they bring to the world.
