Today, pancreatic cancer is usually detected too late for potentially curative therapy and the majority of patients die of their disease within months of diagnosis. We are on a mission to change that. Currently, imaging procedures (MRI, MRCP and EUS) are the only means available for clinically monitoring people at increased risk for pancreatic cancer. These techniques are cumbersome and expensive and have difficulty in identifying early cancers reliably. We, and clinicians caring for people at risk for pancreatic cancer, feel that a blood test for early pancreatic cancer detection would be a game changer for these high-risk individuals. Unfortunately, no current blood test is sensitive and specific enough to bridge this gap. Our strategy is to combine the results of multiple blood biomarkers to provide high sensitivity and specificity for early pancreatic cancer detection so that curative therapy will be possible for most high-risk individuals rather than a small minority.
