About Jessica Stevens

Conservation professional with specific experience in volunteer management and animal care working in charities. Masters in Anthrozoology, with specific focus in connecting people to nature through empathy and engagement.     Second season developing and running a volunteer programme at an Indonesian run orangutan rescue and rehab centre. Developing and coordinating an array of activities that are in line with the conservation goals of the local charity whilst building a working partnership with various stakeholders including the local staff, management team, sister sanctuary and the various fundraising bodies of the charity. These included big construction projects, animal welfare and husbandry projects that all pose serious risks (working in the rainforest, working with dangerous animals, heavy machinery, tropical conditions and with dangerous tools such as machetes) therefore risk assessments, training, and constant recalibration was necessary to ensure the success of the programme and safety of the volunteers dependent on their capabilities. Successfully managing a group of ethnically and demographically diverse volunteers, maintaining a cohesive and collaborative project. Educating and delivering workshops and talking on primate conservation and tropical habitat conservation.6 month contract in line with the duration of the volunteer programme.
