Jessy Warn didn’t exactly start her career dreaming of HR. In fact, her first gig was as a checkout chick at a supermarket—hardly the glamorous start, but it turned out to be a crash course in leadership. By 18, she was managing people twice her age, handling everything from firing staff to confronting employee theft, and even dealing with some questionable antics in the cool room. Let’s just say, it was eye-opening.While Jessy quickly figured out how to lead, something didn’t sit right. The whole “lead by fear” model wasn’t her style. She didn’t want people scrambling to look busy when she walked by—she wanted them to work because they wanted to, not because they had to. It was a turning point.A move overseas gave Jessy the opportunity to work at Whole Foods Market, a place where team happiness was a core value. It hit home: when people enjoy what they do, the whole business thrives. This experience flipped the script on leadership for Jessy and set her on the path to HR.After completing her Masters in HR and gaining experience in operations and leadership, Jessy joined forces with HR Gurus’ founder, Emily Jaksch, back in 2010. The two clicked over a shared belief in keeping HR practical and simple, because it really should be.Today, Jessy is driven by one goal: creating lasting change in workplaces. She’s seen the same issues crop up time and again in businesses, but she’s determined to tackle the root causes once and for all. For Jessy, fixing HR problems is more than just solving a temporary issue—it’s about changing the way we work, one business at a time.
