About Jessica Wright
After nearly 40 years of dispossession, the land of Jabiru was handed back to the Mirarr traditional Aboriginal owners during a ceremony on 26 June 2021. I am privileged to work directly for the Mirarr through Gundjeihmi Aboriginal Corporation Jabiru Town (GACJT), and assist them with governance and leasing. I am grateful to work alongside some extraordinarily dedicated and visionary individuals as we work towards bringing the Mirarr's Vision and Jabiru Masterplan to fruition. Prior to working with GACJT, I worked in a simialr role from April 2019 - June 2022 with Jabiru Kabolkmakmen Ltd, providing support to businesses and various stakeholders in Jabiru during this tenure transition. I was honoured to witness the handback of Jabiru to the Mirarr whilst in this role. From August 2014 - March 2018 I worked at Bowden McCormack, Lawyers & Advisers in a variety of roles, joining its team of lawyers following my admittance in 2016. Here I practiced in a range of commercial and employment law. I gained experience representing a range of clients from government bodies, Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander entities, private corporations, community groups, clubs and associations as well as private individuals.I completed my Bachelor of Laws / Bachelor of Arts (with Distinction) through the University of Wollongong in 2009. I then completed a Certificate in Indigenous Health in 2010, also through the University of Wollongong, where I received a High Distinction average. In 2011 and 2012, I broadened my understanding through embarking on several community development volunteer projects in both Cambodia and Nepal.I completed my Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice (with Distinction) through the Australian National University in 2015 and was admitted to the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory in March 2016.
