At the North Eastern Ontario (NEO) Stroke Network at Health Sciences North, I work with a talented team doing research on improving stroke recognition, treatment and care in our region.Prior to this, I proudly spent the bulk of my career as the research coordinator for the University of Ottawa Heart Institute with the STOP smoking cessation program. This program has made a real, positive difference in the way smoking cessation programs across Canada are implemented.Beyond major responsibilities such as providing addiction counselling to at-risk patients (often with mental and physical disabilities), my contributions have been to take ideas from conception to execution by coordinating with interdisciplinary professionals, building and presenting training/safety programs, and having an understanding of the research protocols (funding, ethics, databases) necessary to get things done quickly, effectively, and with support of key stakeholders. I am always seeking to learn and improve my contributions to the NEO Stroke Network and the Sudbury community. I can be reached at jthomson@hsnsudbury.ca
