Community Diversity And Inclusion Officer
Community Diversity and Inclusion officers have a strong connection to the communities we support. I am a strong advocate for the Culturally Diverse, Rainbow, over 55's, Disability and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Within my short time at Kingston I have planned and led Council's 2024 DAHOBIT and Refugee Week events, collaborated and supported the Reconciliation Lead with community consultation for Councils new Reconciliation Action Plan, completed Gender Impact Assessment Training which enabled me to lead the Reconciliation Action Plan's GIA and contribute an array of GIA's for internal council policies. I collaborated across council departments, with Life Saving Victoria along with a local culturally diverse Primary School to implement Water Safety information sessions for parents and caregivers which aligned with the schools swimming lesson program for students. This program is aimed to build the capacity of newly arrived refugee and migrants who's cultural values have not historically included how to be safe around water.
