Scientific Director
Argobio is a start-up studio dedicated to novel therapeutics aiming to nurture and launch breakthrough Biotech companies. Argobio sources innovative early-stage projects from renowned European academic research institutions with the objective of incubating these projects before company creation. The focus is on rare diseases, neurological disorders, oncology, and immunology. The studio also looks to develop promising platform technologies for therapeutic products. Argobio was initiated by Kurma Partners, Bpifrance, Angelini Pharma, Evotec and Institut Pasteur who have committed 50M € to Argobio.
Senior Director, Head Of Discovery
Head of Discovery: In this role I managed a team of Scientific Directors that lead Protein Engineering, Vector Design, Vector Core, Assay Development & Screening and Protein Biochemistry functions. In partnership with the research project leaders, the Discovery team is responsible for taking ideas from proof of concept through to lead candidate selection and then supporting candidates into non-clinical and clinical development.Project leader for undisclosed pre-clinical program: In this role I performed some of the early hands-on bench work and through leadership of a cross-functional team used the PoC data to secure a ~£1M UK government grant that supports all aspects of the program up to IND-enabling studies. This program has already achieved a number of milestones including 120- fold improvement in the expression cassette potency and efficacy in functional models of complement dysregulation. Work on this project to date has resulted in two patents as co-inventor.Project team member for lead clinical program (hemophilia B): In this role, I developed the factor IX assay strategy, oversaw screening of patient samples for inclusion in our first clinical trial and developed (via team) a next-generation assay that will be deployed as a platform assay in all our future trials. I contributed to regulatory document writing for the FDA (RMAT and type B), EMA (PRIME) and MHRA and defended our position in regulatory meetings. Through this work we have received positive feedback that has allowed us to advance the program with confidence. This work is the subject of numerous abstracts/posters, manuscripts in preparation, one invited presentation and two patents as co-inventor.
Director, Head Of Biochemistry
In this role I built the Biochemistry team from scratch to a high-performing team of 10 that developed assays to support clinical trials; supported assay development for all research activities; implemented high throughput screening workflows and performed biochemical characterization of proteins (transgene products) to enable our programs. While in this role, I also managed the team that performed clinical trial screening assays. To effectively lead this team I obtained training and experience in SOP writing, raising deviations, raising/managing CAPAs, QC of data and reporting of results to the standards of ICH and our internal Quality system.
Committee Co-Chair
Lecturer In Haematology/Immunology
In this role I developed the foundation of an academic research program focused on the interplay between complement and coagulation in the context of thrombosis and inhibitor development in hemophilia. During my first year, I won an £84,000 industry-sponsored grant to elucidate mechanisms of coagulation in the context of a non-factor therapy.
Banting Fellow
In this role I was the senior postdoctoral fellow in the group and managed the day-to-day activities of 2 technicians and supported the research of numerous graduate and post-doctoral fellows. My research focused on linkages between complement and coagulations systems that have implications for various diseases including thrombosis and infection. My work at UBC resulted in 8 publications.
Postdoctoral Associate
In this role I developed novel methods to characterise blood clot formation and was able to link some of these novel measures to the clinical bleeding phenotype in haemophilia patients. My work at UVM resulted in 4 publications.
Visiting Research Fellow
In this role I led a multi-national research project that delivered pre-clinical results that enabled a phase 1b clinical trial. This project involved coordinating activities across Canadian and UK sites and engaging and facilitating interactions with our industry sponsor. This work was published in Blood.
Graduate Student
My PhD training my focused on the enzymology of coagulation and fibrinolytic reactions that are important/implicated in the contexts of hemophilia or thrombosis. My PhD research resulted in 5 publications.
