I was originally hired to work on the mobile controller apps, where I applied my experience with platform-agnostic shared code and iOS. After about six months I began learning and working with the Android system as well. My role quickly expanded to include more of the controller back-end which communicates with five controller platform UI layers, Sonos speakers over the LAN, and music partners via the cloud. I then transitioned to a team that owned our content APIs where I designed and built-out APIs through our full software stack including the application UI, application C++ back end, SOAP API definitions, embedded systems, and a mock music service for testing.After being introduced to the linux application development on our embedded systems, I enjoyed the additional challenges and began primarily working on the embedded software. Specifically, I focused on deep partner integrations including the Alexa Voice Service (AVS) SDK and Google Assistant. Most recently I have been building out additional REST and websocket APIs to enable new clients access to the speakers’ features and data. Additionally I have been collaborating heavily with cloud services teams to architect system-wide platform changes to support new features while planning for graceful deprecation and maintaining backwards compatibility with various versions of firmware and control application software.I love being on a team that takes on new challenges on a regular basis and explores problems to which we do not yet know the answer. Through transitioning to working more heavily in the embedded space and taking on system-level architecture problems, I have been able to seek out harder, more complex problems and new challenges. Learning new areas of the code, new platforms, and new skills keeps my job both intellectually interesting and rewarding.

The Intermediate Team is one of four competitive rock climbing teams that make up Team Central Rock, Watertown. As head coach of the Intermediate Team, my responsibilities included making lesson plans for plans for practices, running a 3-hour practice twice per week, coaching all members of Team CRG Watertown at USA Climbing Competitions, and managing a coaching staff of 1-2 assistant coaches and 1-2 junior coaches (teens). I also served as the point of contact for the parents of all of the children on my team and coordinated with the gym's Head Coach and Manager on both logistics and developing the youth competitive program.

As an assistant coach I helped with instructing a group of 15-20 kids between the ages of 7 and 18 in the sport of rock climbing. In addition to working directly with the children on the team, my responsibilities included working with the other coaches to determine training activities to target areas of improvement we had recognized, evaluating kids trying out for the team, and helping to determine placement of kids who were ready to move to more advanced teams.

I worked on the suite of software that supported our interactive classroom hardware (including interactive whiteboards, document cameras, vote devices, and more). Initially, I worked primarily in C++ on our platform-agnostic code base, but occasionally found myself digging into platform-specific code on Mac and Windows. MimioStudio included the flagship application, Notebook, to support using the interactive whiteboards in a classroom setting as well as additional software for the teacher’s gradebook, support for other hardware, and more. I worked on many aspects of our software from back-end algorithms to user interface changes, and an internal tool to better support integration of lessons and content.About eight months into my time at Mimio, I expressed interest in working on the planned iPad application and was given the opportunity to take the lead on the project. To do so, I gathered resources to learn iOS development, worked with members of the leadership team to determine app features, designed the overall architecture of the application, worked with other engineers on networking protocols to communicate with our desktop applications, and ultimately became the point person of the iOS app for both software management and QA. I was ecstatic to have the chance to dive into something new, take responsibility for a whole area of the code, and see a project through from conception to release and onward to version two.

I worked with Professor Richard G. French on researching Saturn's rings using data from the NASA Cassini probe. My main effort was to model and fit density waves (which are oscillations driven by Saturn's moons) to calibrate the data set with distances from Saturn.
