I work in the Mental Behavorial Health Field. Ever watch a T.V. series or movie about a mental health institution. The majority of what is shown is accurate. There is no electro-shocking, no patients running around wildly, no patients out of control. We have structure, we have control, and we treat our patients with respect. I am the one that makes sure the environment is safe. I make sure nothing could potentially be dangerous for them or for the staff taking care of them. I make sure the patients understand I am there for them. I do my best to make them feel like someone does care about them. I also get vital signs a few times daily, make sure they get their meals, and of course the daily "up-keep/pick-up" on "self and our space". Working in "NARC" there is, will never be, a slow boring moment. NARC is out intake at Lakeside. So, if you come through thsoe doors you will end up seeing my smiling face at some point during the day. I love this area of the hospital. Its fast paced, front of the line, non-stop motion the whole time I am there. We CAN NOT CLOSE because we are a 24/7 Mental Health Hospital. I care about others, I understand the sick (mentally), and I love watching other people get better (physically/mentally). Nothing brings me more joy and gratitude than seeing the turnaround of the patients.
