Baidu's Big Search Architecture Department • Increase the Recall rate for big index and decrease the SSD read/write cost, for the heavy-tailed webpages (approximately 100 billion index, about PB (Petabyte) storage)• Essentially we use the following two strategies to build up the indexing: a). term segmentation instead of doc segmentation , achieving O(N) to O(1) running time improvements; b). synchronized processing to asynchronous processing.• By analyzing users' CPU time usages of the indexing and retrieval system, we found the most costing system functions and then optimized the corresponding algorithmic modules.
