At the Leiden Observatory, I worked in the group of Computational Astrophysics lead by prof. Portegies Zwart. I studied the dynamics and origin of planetary systems, including our own Solar system. I prepared and run astrophysical simulations of gravitational dynamics, analyzed the output in form of large multidimensional data sets and presented the results at several international conferences and in 6 peer reviewed papers. I worked with and contributed to a large open source software framework (Python) for astrophysical simulations (Astrophysical Multipurpose Software Environment or AMUSE).I have also (co)supervised students on undergraduate (2), graduate (1), and internship (2) level.

I earned my PhD degree with a thesis dealing with the motion of open clusters in the Milky Way Galaxy.To study this, I programmed 2000 lines of Fortran code to integrate orbits in the Galaxy. I run and analysed the simulations and presented the results in a peer reviewed paper in an international astrophysical journal and at several conferences. I also carried out clustering analysis of data from a public astronomical catalog — membership probabilities for 1600 star clusters, up to 5000 stars each, using multivariate (2D) empirical frequency functions.As a side project (a month of work) I worked on a sample characterization of an observational survey of 600 galaxies (CALIFA). The result was shared with and used by a community of about 100 researchers.I was a teaching assistant for several courses (Mechanics, Thermodynamics, and Elementary math preparation course), which also involved correcting students assignments and tests.

I spent two years working at ESO (Santiago, Chile) towards my PhD. I was mostly studying Galactic open star clusters and their kinematics. I carried out observations (CCD photometry with 1m telescopes) at two international observatories in Chile.
