I provide my services as a communication skills teacher and facilitator during the 'scenario based' teaching sessions at the vet school.

I began working at Vets4Pets Redditch in a Veterinary Nurse role in 2012, following the tragic death of the lovely Tracy Mayne, who was a JVP at the practice. After working as a long-term locum, I took on a permanent part-time role, until June 2015. I now work as an occasional locum for the practice, and it's lovely to be part of the team when I'm back.

I undertook a nine-week locum position teaching aspects of 'Veterinary Professional Foundations' and 'Essential Veterinary Skills' to all 7 (pre-clinical) semesters of students. This involved large group teaching, using the 'flipped classroom' technique; and small group teaching of communication skills, using scenarios, simulated clients and in-depth discussion.I was also involved with clinical skills teaching and physical examination lab work. I was responsible for the setup, implementation, teaching and assessment of the 'Professional Key Skills' aspect of the RCVS Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice, a post-graduate, level 7 programme. I also ran a lvel 7 (masters level) module for VNs, which broke new ground in VN CPD.I was also involved with the development and teaching of the 'Professional and Communication Skills' aspects of the Veterinary undergraduate curriculum, including the Communication Skills elective, and also helped to setup and run a 'neutering clinic' that assisted undergraduates with 'day one' cat neutering skills.I presented at several conferences, including the University of Liverpool's Learning and Teaching conference, the ICCVM (International Conference on Communications in Veterinary Medicine) in California, and the Veteriary Education Symposium at Nottingham Vet School. I worked in small animal, first opinion practice for 12 years, and held the position of head nurse from 1997 until leaving the practice. I relished the responsibilities involved with being head nurse and overseeing and maintaining nursing standards and nurse training within the practice; as well as being able to put my interests in cardiology, surgical nursing and anaesthesia to good use on a regular basis.
