Research EngineerManaged, developed, and executed experimental programs to investigate energetics’ performance and resultant target response. Used energetics expertise to establish working relationships with international and national government agency counterparts. Performed data analysis and provided recommendations on improving survivability of Army systems and soldier protection. Specific achievements included:Investigated quasi-static pressure in semi-vented structures to improve blast algorithms for Collateral damage and Lethality/Survivability codes.Managed and executed experimental programs involving above-ground detonation of explosives and explosive devices to investigate the characteristics and optimization of reactive materials and multiphase explosives.Assessed the mechanism(s) of case break-up due to fragment impact using flash radiography, live and inert propellants.Developed a measurement methodology to capture improvised explosive device (IED) fragment spread and velocity for use in predicting body armor performance.Made time of arrival and shock front measurements with piezoelectric pins and optical assemblies in order to advance the study of near-field energy release during a detonation; steering explosives formulations for the future.Wrote Matlab and Labview codes that advanced data acquisition techniques and improved branch man-hour efficiency by more than 50%.

Research EngineerUsed data analysis and novel investigative techniques to advance the understanding of explosives events. Participated in meetings relevant to area of understanding to include interactions with Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Energy (DoE) Laboratories and international counterparts performing similar research. Specific achievements include the following:Investigated the effectiveness of ballistic fabric for reducing blast overpressure effects on body armor.Managed and executed an experimental program to improve survivability from a stowed munition when it initiates unexpectedly inside the vehicle during an attack.Reviewed and analyzed confined blast data from multiple agencies.Used Visual Basic to develop code that analyzes quasi-static and free field pressure data from multiple gauges, comparing up to four data sets per plot.Collaborated with the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) , U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) and their contractors to advance the community’s understanding of how buildings respond when a munition is detonated inside.

Worked in the ballistic test lab, performed ballistic and hydrostatic testing on airbag components for quality assurance.
