I feel responsible for the children of the next generation. It’s not their fault they’re having trouble growing up in today's culture. You and I are answerable for the demise of respect and civility they're trying to navigate. I firmly believe the decisions we make today determine whether our children and grandchildren will have a future they can enjoy or one they must endure. I'm working on the state of our culture, one heart at a time. I founded a non-profit organization, Manners of the Heart (MOH), to reawaken respect in our society for the sake of the next generation. We work with children and adults to open their eyes to see how their attitudes and actions affect those around them. Through our elementary Heart Education curriculum, parenting books and workshops, children receive instruction that instills the desire to esteem others rather than esteem themselves. As they grow in knowledge and understanding, they gain respect for themselves. Counter-cultural? Absolutely and intentionally. Parents are able to raise children who become respectful and respectable young adults, StrongHearts, who are morally courageous, grounded in Truth, and fortified with self-respect, who overcome the obstacles of life to become all God created them to be.At Manners of the Heart, we have found that without RESPECT...parents cannot parent and teachers cannot teach so children cannot learn and communities cannot thrive. This is the critical need that creates the sense of urgency we feel in our work every day.For years, others have encouraged me to share where my unrelenting, irrepressible drive comes from.
