House of Commons and House of LordsWorking on behalf of The Right Honorable Michael Martin, Speaker of the House of Commons and a cross–party Parliamentary Committee to bring international politicians, diplomats, business leaders and the public to the UK Parliament for an annual 4 day conference, as well as supporting the conference set up in other national and regional Parliaments – such as USA, Brussels, Czech Republic, Wales, Scotland, France, Germany, and Holland.House of Lords. Deputy Head of Office. , working across all Parliamentary, political and commercial agencies. Our intern programme was designed as a rigorous and rewarding experience which led to the set up of the Warwick Leadership Foundation programme being rolled out into schools across the UK.

Trained as a medical professional early in my career, I used that knowledge and skill as the lead executive in this international business providing turnkey design/ build/ operation/ maintenance medical facilities for United Nations, EU and commercial programmes in Africa and the Middle East. I worked with hundreds of supply organisations to ensure delivery on time and on budget by focusing attention on Service Level Agreements and internal controllables rather than external and often uncontrollable events (e.g. war, famine and drought). I was responsible for contract negotiations and import/export regulation and compliance across more than 10 different national jurisdictions. I learned rapidly on the job how to navigate the logistical nightmares of international project co-ordination by honing my diplomatic skills to pull off the companies first ever complex contracts delivered abroad as well as to cover up my grey hairs.

After qualifying I specialised in Midwifery and A+E - both high pressured and often crisis environments with lots of competing and complex priorities in life and death situations. As I reflect on those years I realise that there are very few times in business that involve crises at these levels – and that the principles of Triage have come in very handy in many of the organisations that I subsequently worked in.
