James W. Backus has been engaged in the general practice of law in the Hampton Roads area since 1975. He holds a bachelor’s degree from East Carolina University and a law degree from Wake Forest University School of Law. He is currently a solo practitioner and was formerly a partner in the firm then known as Ferrell, Backus, Sayer, Nicolo and Mobley.He is a member of the Virginia State Bar and member and past President of the Portsmouth Bar Association. He was formerly a member of the Virginia State Bar Committee for the First District.
