Working with the Highways Agency on the Area 1 MAC contract. The majority of the improvement works are undertaken on an NEC 3 Option C target costing basis. The role includes preparing target costs, subcontractor procurement, issuing and agreeing compensation events with our subcontractors and the Highways Agency, monitoring of costs and final accounting. As well as the improvement schemes we assist and monitor the routine maintenance and incident response works.

Quantity Surveyor and General Manager. Contracts mostly NEC3 Option A or B and some JCT contracts. Undertaking tenders, applications for payment, monitoring of costs, temporary works designs and co-ordination, Health and Safety paperwork (risk assessments, method statements, COSHH assessments), offering value engineering alternatives to reduce main contractor costs, final accounting, progress meetings, quarterly SHEQ meetings with main contractors, co-ordinating work force movements, etc. Working primarily in civils on waterboard, highways and environment agency schemes with around 20% of the business being retail, residential and commercial concrete frame buildings. Also worked on site as a Site Supervisor (SSSTS) and Crane Supervisor as and when workload required it.

Preparing and agreeing applications for payment, invoices, final accounts and monitoring costs on a range of schemes from large industrial estate schemes, schools and retail properties to small housing estates of 10-20 houses.

The first year spent working under a Senior Quantity Surveyor. I undertook all site measures and prepared applications for payments while he undertook the tenders and financial reporting. When the Senior QS moved on I then undertook his responsibilities.

Fixing steel reinforcement, placing concrete, erecting shuttering, concrete finishing, general site duties. Also driving company pick up to transport materials to various sites in Cornwall and Devon.
