Taken from the minutes of the April 28th Meeting of the MCCCD Governing Board Meeting:Dr. Irene Kovala, President of Glendale Community College (GCC), presented a Faculty Emeritus Distinction Award to James R. Daugherty, Faculty, Biology. Mr. Jim Daugherty’s many contributions to the Maricopa County Community College District warrant the designation of Emeritus Faculty upon his retirement from Glendale Community College after 27 years of exemplary service. He began teaching at GCC as an adjunct in 1980 and full-time in 1988. He served as residential faculty in both the Technology and Consumer Science Department and the Biology Department where he taught a diverse repertoire of nutrition and biology courses. Throughout his career at GCC, Mr. Daugherty involved himself in faculty leadership where he became known as a calming voice, leading GCC through some of its most turbulent years. He served on the GCC Quantum Quality Project team in 1993. He was recognized for his dedicated service to the Faculty Executive Council in 1997 and again in 2008. He earned certificates in Leadership Training from the American Association of University Professors (1997), the Academy for Leadership Training and Development (2002-03), Resources Unlimited (2004), and theAmerican Arbitration Association (2005). He co-chaired the Meet & Confer Team of the MCCCD Faculty Association in 2001 and he served the GCC faculty as our Senate President 2006-07 and 2007-08. Mr.Daugherty has facilitated the technological advancement of GCC by continually learning and then sharing his knowledge of information technology. He received the Innovation of the Year award for eCourse development in 2006-2007. Mr. Daugherty was the Director of Innovation Center for 6+years. This year he earned expert level certification in Information Technology Infrastructure Library training from Axelos Global, Inc.

Researched and implemented new technologies for the enhancement of teaching and learning.

ICLF completed a privately funded 3.5 M Irish Library. Grand Opening was in Oct. 2012.

Served on Marketing and Distribution, Inspection and Audit, and Fraternal Committees of the Board.
