As head of department, I was responsible for: •testing software products, solutions, prototypes, proofs of concept and demonstrators developed by the Engineering department;•ensuring that the processes for developing, testing and documenting those artefacts were appropriate and effective;•carrying out project-independent quality assurance tasks and projects, such as defining and monitoring development, testing and documentation standards;•the drafting, reviewing and publication of documentation for products developed by the Engineering department.I had global responsibility across all i2 development sites: Cambridge, Tucson, and Vancouver.

I oversaw the development teams responsible for the design, development, testing, documentation and maintenance of (essentially) 10 i2 products. My key roles were to coordinate resource scheduling and staffing, supervise product releases within my group, and provide support to my team with regard to project and person management.

Managed the development, testing and documentation of the company’s flagship product i2 Analyst’s Notebook, the product’s Software Development Kit, and the freely distributed i2 ChartReader. The job entailed line managing the 20-strong multi-disciplinary development team, allocating work to team members, prioritising and allocating technical tasks, providing support to internal and external customers, reporting progress to senior management, and steering the product through a series of important and successful releases.

I was employed as the Operations Director of a small software company that developed and marketed appraisal and CPD systems and a healthcare quality management application.

Wilco was a City-based software house specialising in bespoke systems and services for the banking industry. The company employed in excess of 350 staff worldwide, before acquisition by ADP Inc. in 1998. I had several roles in my time at the company, but in my final role, I coordinated the company’s Project Managers, working in customers’ sites all over the City; developed charging, cost structures and overtime rules; carried out strategic design of the company's in-house administration systems; was a member of a team allocating resources to projects; and carried out graduate interviewing, selection and recruitment.
