About James Barrett

I am a consultant, writer, teacher and independent researcher. I have a PhD (2015) and M.A (Umeå University) and a B.A (USQ Australia) in media, language studies, education, and journalism and a B.Ed. (Södertörn University). I spent 10 years working as a researcher specialising in technologies for interactive narrative (2002-2013) at Umeå University. From 2013-2016 I worked in copywriting, translation, marketing and training, mostly as a digital content designer for med tech companies. I started my own company in 2017 and worked as a project coordinator working with community cultural development. Since 2019 I have worked as a teacher, editor, translator and writer in English and Swedish.I live at the intersections of culture, media, technology and language. I have been described as a creative and generative thinker, and often seem to be able to apply innovative solutions to the issue at hand. My music and sound works have been downloaded over 100, 000 times and online videos have had tens of thousands of views. I have played at music festivals in Germany, Sweden, Australia, Finland and Holland and my music has been released on labels in the USA, the UK, Australia, Sweden and Ukraine.
