Planning and Acquisition In this role, I was responsible for the technical aspects of the diligence for new business company acquisitions. We acquired four different companies while I was in this role and looked at many others. I was also responsible for hardware and software acquisitions for all data centers across FDC. We had approximately $75 million of capital expenditures during the last 12 months I was in this job. I also negotiated five major third-party software enterprise agreements.Data Center Relocations I relocated three major data processing centers over this time period. They were relocated without customer impact, on-schedule and within budget. Relocation involved no more than a weekend of down time for each because more down time would have cost the company millions of dollars per day. Two were moved from the east coast to Denver and the other was moved from Tulsa to Omaha.
The major activities involved in these roles included:Chief Information Officer This position was responsible for the corporate administration and information services functions.New York In this role I was responsible for running the Shearson Data Processing Center for our parent company American Express. Shearson had lost over a billion dollars the year prior and the chairman of American Express asked us (FDC) to take control of it to correct the problems that had led to this loss. I worked in New York for a two year period managing the staff of approximately 1000 employees. After the two years the company was turned over to the new management team. This was a 100,000 plus hour programming effort and a major data center conversion. I was asked to go to the UK after the conversion was attempted and failed. After approximately six months of clean up efforts and then getting the hardware/software environment in shape, I achieved the successful conversion.
