Sea Going Biological Science Technician
Current• Work 12-hour shifts, up to 180 days per year at sea on NOAA Northeast Fisheries Science Center marine resource survey cruises.• Conduct field sampling to assess over 500 groundfish and invertebrate species throughout the Mid-Atlantic and New England coastal and offshore waters.• Collect and process histology, maturity age and growth samples.• Sort, identify, weigh, measure, dissect and preserve Mid Atlantic and New England groundfish and invertebrate samples.• Work in varying environmental conditions to safely deploy/retrieve equipment, make repairs, and conduct sampling operations on near coastal and offshore waters.• Efficiently mobilize, demobilize, transport, store and secure marine sampling gear and instrumentation at sea.• Utilize electronic data acquisition systems to collect physical and biological data.• Responsible for maintenance, safety, and cleanliness of shipboard lab spaces.• Assist with the administration and troubleshooting of electronic data acquisition systems used during marine resource cruises.
