Productivity, quality, safety and compliance are often difficult for a team to achieve simultaneously. Many people believe you must sacrifice safety or quality for productivity, or you can only achieve compliance if you are not focused on productivity. I don’t agree with either statement, as I have been training, motivating and leading teams to achieve this delicate balance for more than 10 years. In my 24 years in the Air Force, I was known as a “fixer,” who would often be selected to lead teams that were struggling with one or more areas. Time and again, I have been able to make a positive impact by creating streamlined processes and clearly communicating meticulously detailed instructions so that the whole team is on the same page, moving toward the same goal and using the same methods. In my experience below you will see several examples of increased efficiency, cost savings and streamlined processes.My Air Force career started in a hands-on technical role and though I moved into leadership roles more recently, I have always been able to use my technical expertise to bridge the gap between customers or stakeholders and technical experts on a diverse array of projects.
