I am a conservation biology major with a minor in marine biology looking to conduct research on wildlife. I lived in the Australian Wet Tropics for the first three months of 2023 in a field station. Our station was called the Center for Rainforest studies and it was located on top of a mountain in the middle of a forest. While there I learned a lot about rainforests and how to conduct several different field experiments on trees to test for health of the tree/forest. While there I also conducted research of moth species in the Atherton Tablelands. Our research paper's focus was to see how reforestation efforts effect moth diversity and density. All in all, this experience equipped me with the skills to live in the field with little resources and to conduct meaningful research at the same time.I have worked at my local nature center from 2016-2023. While there I have taught classes about how to care for our ambassador animals. I also was an assistant camp site coordinator that ran the fishing events every week, planned camp events, and was the lead to speaking with the public and parents. I frequently took kids for hikes through our prairie and forest area. I would teach the kids about the various habitats and animals that lived in them. Therefore, my time at Wildwood Nature Center equipped me with excellent public speaking skills and gave me more experience working in the field. I participated in the Frog Call Survey by the Peggy Noterbart Museum. This volunteer opportunity helped develop my data collection and writing skills. I would routinely go out to study sites and do population surveys on the amphibians. I also participated in the Shedd Aquarium’s Teen Science Expedition to the Bahamas. While on the research vessel I learned how to use a seine net, fish species IDing, quadrant surveys, and plankton tows. Most recently I have been working in professor Lobel's shark/ichthyology lab at Boston University. I work alongside prof. Lobel and the graduate students to collect and analyze data. Current research areas the lab has been working on are reef fish communication, otolith research, and figuring out less invasive ways to tag sharks.

Laboratory AssistantBoston University Sep 2023 - PresentBoston, Massachusetts, United StatesI assist in the animal care for several coral, fish, and invertebrate species. My average day involves doing health checks on each of the tanks, water quality testing, nutrient dosing, feeding, and water changes. I also make sure to take meticulous notes on water quality and specimen behavior to spot trends. I then use this data to make changes to my dosings, feedings, etc. -
