Having worked in the engineering industry both in the UK and New Zealand I have gained a broad spectrum of experience. As a trade qualified Welder in a large UK shipbuilder, I spent 10yrs working on mainly Ministry of Defence contracts which included ‘state of the art’ Type 23 submarine hunter frigates. Following a decline in engineering within the UK, I retrained and took a deviation in career to work with ‘at risk’ vulnerable young people using outdoor pursuits as a means of engagement and confidence building.My engineering career continued after emigrating to New Zealand. I adapted quickly to the more diverse range of skills required of engineers in New Zealand- less population, greater skill range needed per person. My trade skill base now includes fabrication and fitting at its core for an equally broad customer base including state owned mining organisation Solid Energy, MDF manufacturing plants, deep sea fishing fleets, forestry and timber manufacturers. I grasped the opportunity to move into mechanical design with Brightwater Engineering. I now create 3D models using Inventor or Solidworks and Vault or EPDM Data management from initial concept through to completion of associated drawings for projects involving mechanical, piping and structural work. I create 2D site layouts, P & ID’s and Process Flow Diagrams using AutoCAD as and when required.
