I have been working at Pinewood Studios since 2014 in the role of Broadcast Engineer. I have honed my skills in designing, implementing, and maintaining complex broadcast systems. I have successfully managed multiple projects from conception to execution, ensuring seamless operation across all phases of broadcasting. My role involves developing innovative solutions that enhanced system reliability and performance. I have a proven track record of optimising broadcast workflows and reducing downtime, contributing to improved operational efficiency and cost savings across all their TV studios. I have extensive experience with various broadcast technologies, including IP-based systems, and digital transmission platforms. During my at time Pinewood I have garnered an increased interest in IP and network solutions and integration; from switch distribution to client services.On occasions I have stepped in, where necessary, on various productions to act as Technical Manager. Working on these shows has allowed me to foster relationships with the freelance crew, and clients alike, involved in every production; and hopefully cemented my reputation within the industry as a knowledgable, friendly, and capable Broadcast and Systems Engineer.

Broadcast Engineering and all that fun stuff!!

My role was an integral part of the Birmingham School of Media. I was part of a four-technician team that supported roughly 500 under/postgraduates and 40+ staff. I was responsible for the instruction, maintenance and development of technical facilities and equipment for the school - primarily the digital radio studios (which I had designed and installed), the TV studio and PSC equipment. During my time I was a part of and led many large-scale projects. The most prominent is being a member of the design team and faculty representative for the new media centre at Millennium Point (The Parkside Building), Birmingham. This role has led me to have a keen interest in broadcast engineering and systems integration. Since starting I have learnt and become more proficient with a wide range of software and hardware.

Since the completion of the new media centre my role was temporarily promoted to Acting Media Centre Technical Manager. I was responsible for 12 media technicians as well as the vast facilities that served three faculties of approximately 1500+ students; they include a Hires & Loans Department, 4 photography studios (plus darkroom and processing), 6 radio studios, 5 TV studios, post production, and broadcast integration systems. I also acted as technical representative for boards of study, course (re)validation events and point of contact for commercial activities. As budget holder I was accountable for the procurement of PSC and studio equipment, maintenance contracts and school technical budgets. I was also the centre’s health & safety co-ordinator.
