In my role as a Business Change Consultant I work across the whole digital transformation lifecycle, from developing an organisation’s business case for investment, capturing functional requirements and creating an invitation to tender, running a partner selection process and finally to project management of the change project.I have worked with large, well known brands like UNISON (Project Management for £1M+ Membership Management System), as well as a range of smaller membership organisations like London Fire Brigade Welfare Fund (Business Case) and the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (Requirements Gathering, ITT development and partner selection).

In this role, I was responsible for the development of Innovate's Career Framework, ensuring that Innovate's consultancy team can grow rapidly, and that new hires, and existing staff alike are well supported in growing their career at Innovate IT.

The KITC is the University of Kent's Student Powered Enterprise, based in the School of Computing. We have three aims: 1. To prepare our student graduates for early-career success. 2. To empower small, ambitious local companies to get the best out of technology.3. To contribute to the University's positive impact on the local economy. We achieve these objectives through supporting our student consultants to deliver IT consultancy projects for local businesses. In these project we use Design Thinking techniques, combined with our student's tech savvy point of view to help businesses to explore how they can best use technology. This gives our students a great opportunity to develop consultancy skills in a real-world environment, whilst giving small businesses access to affordable, impartial guidance.As the KITC business manager I am responsible for the day-to-day operations of the KITC. This involves building a pipeline of commercial projects, coaching teams of student consultants to successfully deliver these projects, and helping them to use their experiences to grow as professionals. I report to the KITC Board which is made up key of University and Industry stakeholders.

As the KITC Business Manager, I report to the Board on the operations of the KITC, and contribute towards the development of our business plan and strategy.

In this role, I lead User Platforms, a team of four database administrators and two desktop developers. This team provided second and third line support for the University’s corporate information systems and desktop computing services. Through the team, I ensured that the University’s corporate systems were secure and performant and that staff and students could access the software they needed. In addition to support, the team were involved in the development of key, high profile University projects such as Staff Connect (Human Resources and Payroll) and Kent Vision (Student Data System).

The role of Experimental Officer is an 80:20 split between Software Development and Technical Support. On the technical support side I line manage the School's Technical Support Officer, who deals with all the desk-side support duties. I also supervise an additional Experimental Officer and between us we support the lab based technical equipment such as eye trackers and EEG/ERP equipment.On the software development side I am responsible for overseeing the development of innovative software solutions for both the School's research as well as administrative activities. This part of the role is very varied and requires me to use a wide toolkit of technologies. Recently I have been specialising in Python web development with Django, but I have made solutions ranging from iPad applications with Objective C, to games in Adobe Flex.

This project was to develop a relationship management tool using a Flex 3 (Cairngorm) interface, communicating through Blaze DS to a FAST enterprise search service implemented in Java. The aim of the project was to federate data from several sources , and display it to users in a way that is both cognitively and visually appealing.Due to my experience in both Java and Flex I was involved at all levels of the development process from interface development to the implementation of the enterprise search service. This involved writing the data federation layer which integrates several third party data providers through their SOAP based APIs, with the data from the FAST repository.Key technologies: Flex 3, Cairngorm, BlazeDS, Java, FAST

My role was to work on the development of the companies online training companion which was a combined Flex 3 and AIR application using a shared codebase. It was designed to help athletes maintain an optimal schedule of training calculated using heart rate data recorded during their training. This project was a re-design of a previous version of the application, using PureMVC and an XML configured modular architecture to achieve a flexible and maintainable product. In this role amongst other projects, I designed and developed an intuitive and well accepted scientific data visualisation application that allowed fast navigation of over 20,000 discrete data objects. The system was designed to allow users to view data in a way that they have never been able to before, and draw inferences and new knowledge from it. The front end was implemented in Flex 2 and Javascript with Perl script at the server along with a RESTful J2EE web-service in a Tomcat container interfacing to an Oracle 9i data tier.This was very much a customer facing role, and involved actively evangelizing our products to our users, and seeking early feedback so that the user could be involved in shaping the product.Technologies: HTML, Javascript, Java, Perl, Flex, SQL

This position gave me a wide experience of lab based research in the fields of both Allergy & Respiratory medicine and also Obesity. I also picked up an expertise for programming in Visual Basic for Applications which gave me the programming foundation that I would build upon in my future roles.
