Masters project was centered on the development of a robust method for producing hybrid alkali-metal vapor cells for use in spin-exchange research using optical pumping techniques.Has broad background in physical sciences with bachelor's degrees in physics and chemistry from Central Washington University. Research experience includes synthesizing and characterizing one-dimensional magnetic materials, performing quantitative first-order coherence measurements of HeNe laser using Michelson Interferometer apparatus, transforming E. coli with modified DNA plasmids to produce proteins to be ran through affinity columns to study protein-protein interactions in mammalian brain, and synthesizing yttrium-borate crystals doped with europium and calcium for investigating energy transfer between lattice and phosphor using VUV (Vacuum-Ultraviolet) spectroscopy.Had opportunity to use MOT (Magneto-Optical Trapping) apparatus to cool and trap rubidium isotopes 85 and 87 with IR lasers in undergraduate experimental physics lab course. Has exceptional interest in development and application of quantum computing methods such as ion trapping.
