The Manchester Airports Group Plc (M.A.G) is the country’s largest UK-owned airport operator, with four airports at the time - Stansted, Bournemouth, East Midlands and Manchester – serving around 50 million passengers every year.My remit was commercial oversight of both East Midlands and Bournemouth airports, along with the commercial Cargo business of all four Group airports. Core elements of the role included driving air service development activities, airline relationship management, and general commercial business development.

Stobart Air (formerly Aer Arann), was a franchise flying specialist employing nearly 500 people, with main partners being Aer Lingus and Flybe. The Aer Lingus regional brand was the primary public facing brand for the majority of the airlines operations.- My remit was to hold full commercial and operational accountability for the airline business, including being the IAA approved Accountable Manager.- During my term I drove a network realignment to optimise the airline’s profitability, and worked closely with franchise partners AerLingus and Flybe to further identify and action business development opportunities.- Secured both a PSO contract, and an ACMI contract, to expand the network and provide a more stable business baseline.- Hands on management required as inherited senior team in transition.- Business performed well and remained operationally sound during my term.- Change in strategy by shareholder caused early departure, although strong/positive references available.

My role was to lead and develop the UK theatre operation of US based National Amusements, which trades as Showcase Cinemas, with full accountability for all commercial trading and operational management of the companies 1500 employees.Achieved revenue growth by justifying and securing capital expenditure investments to enhance the real estate, and designing new commercial initiatives. Ultimately over-delivered all expectations of the contract.Showcase and Showcase Cinema de Lux are owned and operated by National Amusements, Inc., a world leader in the motion picture exhibition industry operating more than 1,500 screens in the U.S., U.K. and Latin America. National Amusements delivers a superior entertainment experience in cinemas around the world under its Showcase, Multiplex and Showcase Cinema de Lux brands. Based in Dedham, Massachusetts, National Amusements is a closely held company operating under the third generation of leadership by the Redstone family. National Amusements is also an equal partner in the online ticketing service, MovieTickets.com, and is the parent company of both Viacom and CBS Corporation.

bmibaby was a low cost airline, and a subsidiary of the bmi group. Operating from key UK bases with a network across Europe, the airline carried 2.5m passengers per year, employed over 500 staff, and had a turnover in excess of £160 million. I was responsible for full oversight of the bmibaby business, also holding the post of CAA approved Accountable Manager, and reported into the CEO of the bmi Group. During my term the airline had the best financial performance in recent years, and had the best levels of customer satisfaction and operational performance since it’s launch.

IATA is the aviation industry body representing over 260 scheduled airlines worldwide. My role within the organisation was varied, covering a number of aspects including: (1) marketing of IATA’s commercial products and services to the air transport industry, (2) development of new commercial initiatives, (3) supporting IATA’s involvement with the low cost carrier sector, and (4) participating in various consulting projects.

MyTravelLite was the low cost airline owned by the MyTravel Group PLC. I joined as primary support to the previous MD and very quickly completely overhauled the commercial operation and business model, moving the airline strategically from being a pure ‘low cost’ carrier, to being a quality low fares leisure airline. I assumed the MD role in September 2004, and continued to build on this success until the airline was merged back into the parent MyTravel charter business.

Initially I was employed as a consultant, after having completed a variety of studies for the parent airline (Channel Express) previously. My brief was to project manage the start up of a new low cost division. This involved overseeing all aspects of the airline’s start up; from the initial feasibility studies, through to project managing the establishment of the operation, and the ultimate writing of and implementation of the business plan. Once the airline was established I took on the role of Business Development Manager based at Leeds Bradford Airport. This position was a general management role, overseeing all of the Jet2 operation at Leeds Bradford. Responsibilities included ensuring the successful day-to-day operation of the airline, both operationally and commercially.

Xtra-vision was the largest video rental company in Ireland, and is part of the multi-national Blockbuster Group. In my position as Regional Director of Operations I was ultimately responsible for the effective operation of all the video stores in the Republic of Ireland (except the Dublin stores). This equated to 88 stores, over 500 staff, and an annual turnover in excess of £40 million. I oversaw all aspects of the business, from team management, capital expenditure, marketing, and overall profit and loss accountability.

Virgin Cinemas was a progressive multiplex cinema company, which was part of the multi-national Virgin Group. I started as an Assistant Manager based in Salford, Manchester. I then moved to the site in Liverpool, before being sent to Dublin as part of a two-person team to help set up a new cinema there. Following this I moved to the 9 screen multiplex in Northampton to assume the role of Deputy General Manager there, although I was the Acting General Manager for most of this period.
