John Sutter is a Pittsburgh-based Managing Director at FTI Consulting and leader of the Strategic Communications Energy and Natural Resources team.John has nearly 15 years of experience providing strategic communications, crisis management and public affairs counsel to corporations, top trade associations, and politicians. At FTI, John specializes in the energy sector, where he advises primarily oil & gas, nuclear, hydrogen and utility clients on integrated communications strategies that mitigate risk, navigate crises, and advance key business objectives.Working proactively and through critical moments, John routinely engages with top tier energy and financial reporters, including at Bloomberg, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Associated Press, Financial Times, Reuters, CNN, Fox News, and Politico, among other local and trade publications, to secure, shape and drive key client narratives. In addition to developing and executing external communications strategies, John has a depth of experience in message development, corporate transactions, coaching executives in media and presentation training, as well as developing and communicating corporate responsibility and sustainability actions.Prior to joining FTI, John was a research analyst at a Columbus, Ohio-based political consulting firm, where he developed comprehensive research reports for state and federal campaigns across the country. He also worked as a press secretary on U.S. Senate campaigns in Pennsylvania and Missouri and started his career on Capitol Hill working for a U.S. Senator.Earning a B.A. in Political Science from James Madison University, John edited the award-winning student newspaper and graduated Magna Cum Laude as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He lives with his wife and two young children in western Pennsylvania.
