Design Implementation I & II explore design and expression with structural archetypes, energy considerations, and material properties related to frames, trusses, and more complex organizations and assemblies. The course will investigate interior and exterior light steel, brick, stone and concrete masonry materials, methods, performance. Responsibilities include facilitating daily classes, recording assignments, and assisting students grasp course content through workshops, labs, and desk critiques over student projects.

I primarily assisted with research and design development for several architectural projects, including renovation, building envelope consulting, litigation support, premises liability, and construction administration on both coastal and inland projects of various scales.

While interning with HMK, my primary responsibilities included developing drawings and BIM models for renovation and new construction projects in the healthcare industry. I interacted with full-time architectural staff correcting red-lines, generating floorplans, interior elevations, ceiling plans, egress, and occupancy diagrams, as well as in staff meetings, continuing education sessions, and construction administration site visits.

In my second year of employment at Murray Construction and Real Estate, my education at UT allowed me to have a better grasp on the construction process. Interacting with clients and observing bidding on projects was valuable experience to take back to UT. During summer 2016, I helped frame and construct the Poplar Place Properties apartment units in Murray. I was able to translate learned skills from both past construction and design experience into my work.

In 2015, I was able to translate some of the basic skills I learned on the construction site in 2014 to an office type setting. I worked in Revit, the main architecture design software, along with AutoCAD. I also did site measurements for various renovation projects with the other employed draftsmen in the Group. During the summer, I delivered stone and material samples to clients, allowing me to interact with various professionals in my community, developing my professional communication skills.

While employed, I was able to assist the company both in the office and on the construction site, during the renovation of the Glenn Apartments in Paducah, Kentucky. Despite having no construction experience, I was able to learn basic building methods and practices that have allowed me to excel in future endeavors and the University of Tennessee's College of Architecture and Design.
